Becoming a solicitor in the UK requires a training contract. After achieving LPC (Legal Practice Course), this stage consists of a two-year placement by trainee solicitors. Previously in Fratres, we had published a cover letter for legal jobs. This time, we will focus on the final step before qualification, by introducing readers to a more specific cover letter type, required for a training contract.
The Purpose of Training Contract:
A training contract can be similar to an internship opportunity in which students can invest their academic knowledge. This training lasts two years, in which future solicitors practice legal education in law firms. This training involves three to eight legal work areas, where each area is considered a seat. A seat is an occasion to experience a different legal sphere.
Studies are also involved in this training contract. Future solicitors should Take Professional Skill Course, known as PSC. This course is part of the qualification process. As it tells from its name, this course is based on developing professional skills such as communication, problem-solving, and finance-related skills.
You can take a look at Commercial law jobs.
Trainee Solicitors:
The legal areas that trainee solicitors undertake are known as seats. Each seat is specialized in a legal field such as advocacy, child care and custody, financial, and business arrangements. These legal areas are also known as core modules, from which a potential solicitor can choose a single seat as his/ her elective module and get specialized training in that seat. Since contract training lasts for an extended period and involves different practical tasks and courses, trainee solicitors get paid for their ongoing training. After completing the training contract, potential solicitors should look for a job. They can try to apply for the law firms, in which they did their training contract. Applicants, in this respect, should consider building a CV/ resume that introduces them to their potential employers. As most of them have achieved a-two-year contract training, law applicants lack subtle job experience. That’s why they need to provide a contract trainee cover letter attached to their resume/ CV.
Contract Training Cover Letter Writing Tips:
Writing a cover letter for legal jobs should be a defensive speech in which you defend your reasons to get the job.
First, try to choose the legal area of your application whether you will apply as a solicitor for a firm or a public legal department.
The field in which you are planning to pursue your career can help you structure your cover letter. Now the solicitor trainee's biggest challenge is to write a letter that does not include official work experience. Convincing employers with a poor work history can be hard at the beginning. But, if you thrive at communicating your enthusiasm and success in the training session, you can get a positive impression.
To substitute this lack, you can list the appraisal and the positive guidance of your supervisors in your letter.
-You can also describe some achievements.
-You can also highlight your strengths and list some skills you have learned or employed in your training. You can also read What to Say when Applying for a Job with No Experience in Your Cover letter? posted:1 month agobyMarry JoJoin Cover Letters

My name is (XYZ). I am a trained solicitor, who has achieved contract training at ( mention the law firm) by the 15th of July 2020. I am applying for an entry-level position as a Solicitor. I am excited to start my professional journey in this industry, especially after reading the job offer number 002. I am submitting my application for various reasons, contributing to social justice and my pledge to assist immigrants and people with no citizenship legally.
Adding to my educational fulfillment, skills, and contract training, I volunteered for a paralegal office to offer free legal cost help for people struggling financially in debts. Adding to my expertise in original document verification, forensic linguistics, and legal consulting, I gained a broad experience assisting different clients from ABC firm. During my training, I have a clear idea of the areas of practice that interested me and made me choose this job.
